My boss the salesman is trying to get rid of an old Taurus. I wonder how good it is on the grids?

They handle really bad. Especially on gravel. However, I hear they do really well with the sequence of events that may occur after handling poorly on gravel. Such as sliding sideways down a 15ft embankment into a an irrigation ditch with a couple feet of water. I also hear that they tend to win fights against chickens.

Looks like a basic trim level Taurus L, not many around anymore.
It seems with the 3.0 the transmissions are glass, with the 3.8 the headgaskets are paper, fun times.

Buy it, drive it to BC and leave it burning in Surrey. That’s how you get rid of cars here.

But at that point, I might as well not buy it.

Maybe later if I remember. One of my best friends had a same gen Mercury unstable in high school. So not my stories exactly, but I can definitely retell them.

My brother got one of those for US $300. He got some use out of it before the transmission failed. This price seems high.

I was in the back seat of one of those, even the same color and wheel covers, being driven by a high school buddy when he lost control, spun it completely around and we ended up, up-side-down and backwards in the ditch. I had my seat belt on and ended up completely unscathed. I can wholeheartedly endorse the product from a safety standpoint.

I wonder if they share the same unit.
My uncle had one with a 3.0, lost the transmission at around 100K, w hich I suppose is normal for a 1986 domestic V6 car. My mom had a 3.8, head gasket went at ~80K.

I’m surprised as to how little rust it has, usually around here the rear fenders are gone.
